7. Om Bikash Sinjali Member
8. Sita Gaundel (Gaihre) Member
9. Shiva Neupane Member
10. Bishnu Prasad Bhattarai Member
11. Dil Kumar Thapa Member
The inaugural ceremony was chaired by Mr. Yam Bahadur Kunwar, the Chairman of the Branch. It was conducted by the Secretary, Mr. kamal Chandra Lamsal and Prof. Dr. Govinda Raj Bhattarai, President NELTA was the Chief Guest. Among the guests were Mr. Ganga Ram Gautam and Mr. Lekhnath Sharma Pathak from the Central Committee, Mr. Sachidananda Yadav, Campus Chief, Walling Multiple Campus, Mr. Tej Prasad Kafle, Chairman of Walling Multiple Campus Management Committee, Mr. Tribhuvan Aryal, Head Teacher and Mr. Pitambar Bhattarai.
On this occasion Mr. Chandra Bahadur K. C. Vice-Chairman NELTA Syangja made a welcome speech and gave an introduction to the formation of the Branch. He said English Teachers from Syangja were looking for a common platform and with the initiative and encouragement of Mr. Lekhnath S Pathak efforts were made to bring together the English Teachers from Syangja and an ad-hoc committee formed and information disseminated to other teachers. He promised that the committee will spread NELTA to each school of Syangja and in two years try their best to enrich English Teachers with required ELT input. He requested proper guidance regarding expertise and experiences from the members of the Central Committee.
Mr. Tribhuvan Aryal said that people open organizations but they do not grow, but he hoped that this will not happen to NELTA and will get good nurturing and contribute to the strengthening of ELT in Syangja.
Mr. Sachidananda Yadav expressed his pride in hosting the NELTA inauguration ceremony and said he would like to see it grow. He also expressed his expectation that NELTA will address the problems of English teaching in the district.
Mr. Tej Prasad Kafle expressed his happiness on the arrival of NELTA to Syangja and that it was a matter of pleasure to all in the district. He said English has been a major barrier for students to get through the school and to increase the pass rate. He also said parents are extremely disappointed to see their children fail in English and students also feel very sad and discouraged since they cannot progress in the English language. He exhorted everyone present to make commitment to spread the light of English not only within the country but also outside.
Mr. Ganga Ram Gautam informed the gathering of professional network nationally and internationally that the branch stands to gain by becoming a branch member of NELTA. He also said that changes will not come overnight just by becoming a NELTA member. The idea is to bring about a change by mutual cooperation and helping the teachers to find out the trainer within themselves.
Mr. Lekhnath Pathak expressed his personal desire to see NELTA come to his home district as he had seen English teachers benefit from NELTA and he wanted English Teachers in his district also to benefit from the expertise and activities of NELTA. He also warned them of the challenges that lie ahead by becoming a branch and that unless English teachers of the branch work very hard and promote ELT in the district and work for the benefit of all the teachers, the branch might even lose its status. He requested the Committee to spread the activities of NELTA horizontally and vertically, that is, covering all the schools and colleges across the entire district, especially it should try to reach the remotest schools in the district.
Prof. Dr. Govinda Raj Bhattarai said ELT has changed the globalised context due to technological intervention. In our country, English is introduced from grade one, but proficiency of teachers is not satisfactory. Majority of the students doing M.Ed. in English are villages who finally become English so these teachers have to be properly trained who can handle ELT and classroom effectively. NELTA is an initiative to support English teachers. Current trends and innovations and inputs from the ELT experts all over the world in ELT have been explored by NELTA and would like to spread it across the country by promoting interaction between branches and Centre.
Concluding the inaugural ceremony, Mr. Yam Bahadur Kunwar expressed the Committee’s efforts and commitment to take NELTA and its programmes forward, but few more programmes like Primary, Lower Secondary and Secondary teacher training packages and also trainer’s training to develop expertise were needed. He requested Walling Campus to give a room to establish a library and expected books from the Centre. He assured that that they will have 50 life members and 300 general members in two years and for this they needed continuous support and help from the Centre.
